A house concert is just what it sounds like—a concert in a house. Many folk musicians like this format for a concert, because it is so in-keeping with the spirit of folk music—intimate, acoustic, and friendly. And for the audience, every seat is the best seat in the house—there are no artificial barriers between them and the “stage” plus the informal atmosphere encourages interaction between the audience and the performers. And during breaks and after the show, there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to mingle. No dashing backstage for us—we’re out to prove that folk musicians are “just folks”!
There are many ways of getting together a house concert. We’re glad to provide advice on publicity, organizing, scheduling, and the like—we’ve all had lots of experience in organizing house concerts ourselves.
